Hey everyone,
I am working on the streets cad file and I realized that on our requirements outline that it says the maps for the analysis have to be 1/64th and 1/32nd scale. The cad file is already scaled to something. Does anyone know the scale factor of the drawing or is it something arbitrary?
Thanks,
Christine
I think you are talking about the dwg that Tess already scaled. In that case, it sounded like she made it 1:1. A quick test would be to measure the width of Newbury St. Two lanes of parking and two lanes of travel is going to be around 40' wide. If it is drastically different, then it will need scaling.
ReplyDeleteIt is def 1:1, I have been trying to scale it correctly, and figure out the topo lines, but have been having a lil trouble working w/ the file. Im prob going to end up working w/ it in rhino instead. If any of you can scale it right and figure out the depth of the topo, that would be great. Also, I have the laser cutter reserved on saturday from noon-2, so if anyone wants to come help figure the laser cutter out, i would love to have you.

The measurements of streets and buildings in the re-scaled CAD drawing seem about right. I've been working on a Revit model to do a solar study.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I can tell, the depth of the Top is 2' per topo line. If you look real close at the drawing, you'll see yellow topo lines with the elevation marked. Our site has three yellow topo lines running through it: at 36.5', 46.5', and 56.5'. Between each yellow topo, you'll count 4 gray top lines.
I don't think thats correct. I don'y know what the yellow lines signify, but the site def doesn't have en elevation change of 20', i think the elevation change is closer to 4'. I'll include the cad file trimmed down to our site in the dropbox w/ a pic or two that'll show elev change.
ReplyDeleteThe elevation change that I'm talking about is the entire lot, before our site is subdivided. Take a look a the real estate listings and you'll see pictures of the lot dimensions estimated and drawn with a red line over aerial images.
ReplyDeleteThis site might help. It lists the frontage along the three streets: Dudley, Magazine, and Woodward.

I'm working on a cardboard topo and massing study, one similar to the one I did for Bartlett Yard. I just held the model up to a Google map on the computer screen, and the scale looks right.
ReplyDeleteLooking at what I posted above, last night, I need to clarify. The three yellow topo lines I referred to are at 26.5', 36.5', and 46.5'and they span the block that we're looking at.
ReplyDeleteI've been modeling the whole block in cardboard, not the 56,257 sq ft parcel out of which our 39,077 sq ft lot is being subdivided.
